Our research and collective leadership experience over the past several years confirms that, in order for school systems to improve from poor to good, good to great, and so forth, leaders must engage collaboratively in the study of implementation practice over time. BOSS is the national repository for proven implementation practices for school superintendents. As a cohort member, you will have access to proven implementation practices that work across the country and are based on evidence-based research.
Strong evidence of the dire need for superintendent support is found in the last four decades of national studies of the superintendency. Superintendents identify their top professional development needs as: 1) understanding systems and systems thinking, 2) developing interpersonal skills and, 3) strategic thinking.
BOSS provides high quality, targeted professional development to each cohort of superintendents based on annual needs assessment. Our leadership model acknowledges that we must first know ourselves before we can lead others and help them learn and grow. When we accept that we are all learners, and, that we learn best in the context of our work, we are then capable to lead a team, department or an organization through a healthy change process and achieve improved outcomes for the organization.
BOSS provides superintendents with challenging opportunities to learn and improve emotional competencies so vital for leaders today. Cohort experiences emphasize contextual learning, self-appraisal, leadership assessments, and case study methodology. Cohort members are ensured a safe, secure and supportive environment led by a trained and skilled BOSS Conductor.
BOSS provides structures for superintendents to receive high level coaching and mentoring from a skilled superintendent, cohort learning in groups of 7 to 12 members, high quality professional development based on needs, and online support networks.
